Brenda L. Mulvaney, age 71, of Kinmundy, Illinois, passed away at her home on Thursday, November 5, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

Brenda was born on September 28, 1955, in Salem, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Grace (Brewer) Brown. She married Mark Mulvaney on July 19, 1974, in Salem, and together they shared 52 years of marriage.

Brenda retired from her work as a cook at South Central High School, where preparing meals for others was part of her daily life. Her enjoyment of cooking extended beyond her work, and she found pleasure in many of life’s simple moments, from watching hummingbirds and bluebirds and carefully creating bead art. She loved shopping and running around with her sisters, enjoying their time together as much as the places they visited. Antiquing was another favorite pastime, offering the fun of searching for something unique. Above all, Brenda treasured spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and the time they shared brought her the greatest joy.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Mulvaney of Kinmundy; two children, Tracy Mulvaney and wife Melody of Kinmundy, and Becky Hiestand and husband Bret of Salem; three grandchildren, Blake Hiestand (Elizabeth), Ethan Hiestand (Meredith), and Joshua Hiestand; three great-grandchildren, Reagan, Braxton, and Parker; and two sisters, Ann Moore and husband Ron, and Connie Riley and husband Dean, along with their son Danny.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronnie Brown, as well as three nephews, Josh, Robbie, and Greg.

Funeral services for Brenda L. Mulvaney will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Gene McAllister officiating. Burial will follow at Elder Cemetery in Kinmundy. There will be a time of visitation held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
