Central City Police Chief Jamie Ramsey says a grenade found buried in the yard of a Central City home late Sunday afternoon was not live.
Ramsey says the homeowner was digging in his yard in the 100 block of East Marvin Street when he hit the object. He dug it out of the ground and placed it on the sidewalk before notifying police.
Ramsey, from his military experience, was certain it was not explosive even though it had the fuse assembly. As a precaution, the Secretary of State Bomb Squad was called and ex-rayed the grenade. They confirmed it was not explosive, but removed it for disposal.
Police responded to the incident at 3:58 Sunday afternoon.
