A 27-year-old Odin man was killed when his e-bike left the 300 block of North Broadway in Central City around midnight and crashed into a large utility pole.
Central City Police say after impact the driver, Gabriel Mattmiller of Merritt Street, was thrown back into the roadway with the e-bike landing on top of him.
A passerby called 911 to report finding the man in the roadway. Central City Police were about a block away and quickly arrived on the scene but Mattmiller had already passed.
Coroner Claude Howell pronounced Mattmiller dead on the scene from blunt force trauma to the head. Howell estimated the crash could have occurred a half hour to 45 minutes before he was found.
Central City Police say there is no evidence any other vehicle was involved. They said Mattmiller crossed a sidewalk before hitting the pole head on.
The Centralia Fire Protection District and Lifestar Ambulance also responded to the scene around 12:20 Monday morning.
