The Salem Wildcats Football team will play their first ever White Out game Friday night.

Coach Kevin Greene says this started with the players.

“Kids just started talking, a lot of our seniors started talking about wanting to do a White Out game,” Greene said. “Our women’s basketball team and volleyball team do the Pink Out games, and they do such a good job with that. I said, hey, I’m all in on that. We just kicked around several different ideas during the summertime and came back to men’s mental health awareness, something that probably doesn’t get as much light shined on it as other causes at times. We’re able to partner with the National Alliance on Mental Illness from over in the metro area. The kids were really the driving force behind it.”

Greene says canisters will be available during the game for donations to the mental health group based in the Metro East that provides awareness and programs to businesses and schools in the local area.

He reports Herrin has also joined in the effort and will be changing their uniforms for the game.

The game is also Salem’s homecoming with a king and queen crowned at halftime.
