Mt. Vernon Festivals, Inc. and Mt. Vernon Tourism invite the community to spend an autumn evening downtown during Friday’s Food & Art on Friday, October 2, from 5–8 p.m. at The Commons, 911 Broadway.

This month’s event carries the theme “Celebrating Those Who Keep Mt. Vernon Moving,” with a special evening of appreciation for the City of Mt. Vernon Public Works, Parks and Fleet Services employees whose work helps keep the community running, maintained and beautiful throughout the year.

“These are some of the people working behind the scenes every single day to make Mt. Vernon a better place to live, work and visit,” said Angela Schrum, Director of Mt. Vernon Tourism and Mt. Vernon Festivals, Inc. “Whether they’re maintaining our streets and infrastructure, caring for our parks and public spaces, keeping City vehicles and equipment running, cleaning up after storms or helping us prepare for community events, their work touches all of us. We wanted to dedicate an evening to simply saying thank you.”

As part of the celebration, Mt. Vernon Public Works, Parks and Fleet Services employees will be treated to a complimentary meal provided by Mt. Vernon Festivals, Inc. and catered by Papa Knock’s.

The evening will feature free live music by Jermaine Bollinger, along with local makers, artisans, food vendors and downtown businesses welcoming visitors throughout the evening.

October’s featured Artist Demonstration will spotlight Natalie Hensley of Natsy’s Art, giving attendees an opportunity to see creativity in action and learn more about her work.

Guests can also come hungry, with food and sweet treats available from Papa Knock’s, Roco’s Pizza, Buttercup’s Hand Dipped Ice Cream, Simply Scooped and More, The Gass Kitchen, The Gourmet Kettle Company and Lexis Sweet Treats.
