Former Centralia City Manager Kory Smith is being recommended to be the new full-time in-house city attorney.
Mayor Bryan Kuder is making the proposal. He says bringing the city attorney onto the city’s payroll will provide the city with dedicated legal counsel and greater availability for day-to-day municipal matters. Kuder says while the finances between having a firm on retainer, versus a city attorney as a full-time employee, may not make much of a financial impact on the budget, it will allow for a greater number of legal matters to be completed timelier and more efficiently.
Smith had served as a contractual city attorney for Centralia and other communities before becoming city manager. Kuder is also thanking its contracted legal firm Black, Ballard, McDonald for all of their assistance provided over the years.
The council will also consider a resolution waiving the bidding requirements and accepting a $43,297 proposal from Ironhorse, Inc. for maintenance of the city owned railroad spur in the Centralia Industrial Park.
A resolution is on the agenda to have Gonzales Companies, LLC to perform the Raccoon Lake Dam inspection as required by the state at a cost of $2,250.
The council will also be asked to vacate a right of way between Wilson Avenue and Dimick Street with the property to go to the two adjoining property owners.
A public hearing on the vacation of the right of way is set at 5:45 ahead of the 6 pm city council meeting at city hall.
