The Salem Fire Protection District was called to High Point North off Hotze Road early Monday morning for a fire alarm. Firemen say smoke had started to fill the building from a food item being burned. The smoke was removed without any damage. The call came in at three Monday morning.
Salem firemen were called to a car-deer crash on northbound I-57 five miles north of Salem. The driver declined hospital treatment after being checked by United Medical Response. State Police are handling the crash.
Centralia Firemen were called to the Schnuck’s Supermarket to a report of a dumpster on fire behind the store around three Monday morning. The fire was put out without any damage. It was not close to the building. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
