Two people were injured in a near head-on accident just east of Moonglow Road on State Route 161 east of Centralia. Initial information from the scene indicates an eastbound car started to make a u-turn in front of a westbound pickup truck
The 84-year-old woman driving the car had to be extricated by the Centralia Fire Protection District. An Air Evac helicopter landed on the highway and then transported her to a St. Louis Hospital following initial treatment on the scene by Life Star Ambulance.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by United Medical Response Ambulance for treatment.
The Illinois State Police is investigating the accident. Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies and Centralia City Firemen also assisted at the scene.
The crash occurred at 2:27 p.m. There was lane blockage until approximately 3:43 p.m.
