It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tom A. Scott (Big Tom), a beloved resident of Centralia, Illinois. Tom departed this world peacefully on Wednesday, August 26th, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on Monday, December 29th, 1958, in Greenville, South Carolina, the son of Earl Wade Scott and Bruna (Lorenzi) Scott. Tom lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure, and leaves behind a rich tapestry of cherished memories for family and friends to hold dear. On June 3, 1977, Tom married the love of his life, Carro Leigh Wade, and they had a wonderful 49 years together.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Carro Leigh Scott of Centralia, who stood by his side through life’s journey. He also leaves behind three loving children: Travis Earl Scott and his wife, Jessica Scott of Carlyle; Krista Leigh Scott and her husband, Zachary Walker, of Anchorage, Alaska; and Steve Andrew Scott and his wife, Kristi Scott, of Breese. Tom was the proud grandfather to seven beautiful grandchildren: Travis, Christian, Lydia, Logan, Alexander, Braxton and Sophia, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his immediate family, Tom is survived by his brother, William Scott of Crawfordsville, Florida, and his sister, Francesca Wood of Centralia. He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were touched by his generosity and kindness.
Professionally, Tom was a dedicated printer since he was 16 years old, a role in which his meticulous nature and patience shone brightly. Beyond his career, Tom loved escaping in music, he never missed a Florida State Football game and found solace in nature, spending countless hours outdoors. Tom loved working on cars and fishing, passions nurtured by his parents who owned and operated Lavish’s Bait and Tackle shop in Carlyle for many years.
Tom never met a stranger, and his open, kind heart was evident to anyone fortunate enough to know him. He loved meeting new people and sharing stories of faith and the Gospels, which were close to his heart. His profound love for his family and his unwavering faith were guiding lights throughout his life.
Per Tom’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and a Celebration of Life will be held at Riverside Outdoors, located at 170 Washington Street in Carlyle, Thursday September 3rd from 4-6 PM.
