Hanleigh Schmidt delivered a huge offensive performance Tuesday, driving in four runs as St. Mary-Willow Grove rolled past Selmaville, 15-0, at Rotary Park.
The Wildcards wasted little time taking control, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Vayda Mullenix-Davis provided an early spark with a three-run home run to center field before Schmidt capped the explosive inning with an inside-the-park grand slam.
St. Mary-Willow Grove added five more runs in the second inning on three hits to complete the scoring. Devyn Dodillet-Tomlianovich drove in two runs with a single, while Mullenix-Davis, Aubrey Kuder and Sofia Flores each helped contribute to the five-run frame.
The Wildcards also took advantage of their opportunities at the plate, drawing 12 walks and stealing six bases. Kuder, Schmidt, Hayslee Rosol and Allison Siegler each drew two walks.
Five Wildcards collected hits, with Schmidt, Rosol, Mullenix-Davis, Siegler and Dodillet-Tomlianovich each recording one.
St. Mary-Willow Grove also received dominant pitching. Dodillet-Tomlianovich opened the game with a scoreless inning, allowing no hits while striking out three. Briella Alcorn followed with two scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out five.
The Wildcards played a clean game defensively, committing no errors, with Mullenix-Davis recording a team-high eight defensive plays.
St. Mary-Willow Grove will look to carry the momentum into Wednesday when the Wildcards travel to West Frankfort.
