Boat races are returning to Raccoon Lake for the 22nd year this weekend.

Practice begins at eleven Friday morning and races at noon both Saturday and Sunday.

Al Owen has coordinated the races from the beginning and is looking forward to another year.

“We’re going to have probably in the neighborhood of 45 to 50 drivers, plus the pits and the crews and the trailers,” Owen said. “Overall, there will be 250 to 300 of us in that area down there for the event. As far as heats of racing, we’ll probably have 20 or 25 different heats of racing over the weekend.”

Castle Ridge is the sponsor and the best area for viewing.  The city has closed the boat docks and Point Park through the weekend.

The race is nationally qualifying event for both the Combined US Title Series and National Boat Racing Association.

Speeds of the race will range from 50 to 120 miles per hour.
