A Fayette County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct involving an inmate in the Fayette County Jail.

The sheriff’s office reported that, after learning of the allegations, the administration immediately transferred the inmate to another correctional facility, and the deputy was arrested, charged, and transferred to another county jail for holding.  The name of the correctional officer and the inmate are not being released at this time to protect the integrity of the active investigation.

To maintain transparency and eliminate any conflict of interest, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office immediately contacted Illinois State Police Investigations and requested they lead the investigation into the allegations.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, in a release on its sheriff’s app, says it takes all allegations of staff misconduct with the utmost seriousness, with a priority of maintaining a safe, secure environment and upholding the public trust.   They promise to cooperate fully with the Illinois State Police as they conduct a thorough and independent investigation.
