Eight occupants of a van were injured Tuesday afternoon when the van rolled over on its on the shoulder of I-57 northbound at mile mark 121 five miles north of the US 50 exit at Salem.
Initial information indicates three of the most seriously hurt were transported by Air Evac medical helicopters to regional hospitals. The five others were transported to local hospitals by ambulances.
The Salem Fire Protection District reports they had to extricate three of the occupants from the vehicle.
Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the scene from United Medical, Kinmundy-Alma and Sandoval EMS. Odin fire stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another incident.
State Police are handling the crash.
The incident was first reported at 2:57 Tuesday afternoon.
