Kaskaskia College President George Evans has taken the helm of the Illinois Community College Council of Presidents.
Evans says becoming president of the group is quite an honor and promises to work hard to advance the mission of community colleges.
“ The push for the community college bachelorettes state wide but also just as important is to level the playing field when it comes to right sizing the funding formula for community colleges. We are the best bang for the book in the state of Illinois already and quite candidly we are the lowest funded form, receiving roughly 29 cents in a dollar which that is part of my goal is to continue to promote that advocacy which in turn would hope provide some relief to the local residence and to our students for tuition if we were actually getting paid what we are supposed to be paid.”
Evans feels his biggest responsibility is to get a seat at the table on the higher education funding issue at a time when community colleges play an increasingly important part of workforce development, economic growth, and expanding access to higher education.
Evans is also a member of the Illinois Community College Board and has held several statewide leadership roles within Illinois Community Colleges since becoming Kaskaskia College President in 2018.
Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees Chair John ‘Bill’ Hawley says Evans’ selection reflects both his leadership and his commitment to community colleges throughout Illinois.
Evans will remain President of the Illinois Community College Council of Presidents through June 2027.
