The Salem Wildcats 8u team went 1-2 on the first day of the Pinto World Series held at the Oasis Sports Complex in Marion.
They opened the tournament with a 13-3 win over the Carbondale All Stars. Jackson Lindsey was 3-3 and drove in 2 runs. Patrick Etnier and Zane Smith had 2 hits and 2 RBI each for Salem.
Salem then fell to Aruba 10-0 but they played well for 4 innings holding Aruba to just 4 runs. A 3-run homer and 2-run double were the difference and it impressed Salem coach Zac Cain who told WJBD /WSIQ that Aruba possibly is the best team there with unreal glove work and hot bats 1-12.
The Cats then lost in their final game Friday on a walk-off single 9-8 to the Marion Thrillbillies. Salem will finish pool play today at 1:30 against Kankakee.
Farina is also competing and went 1-2 on the day as well. They fell to Jackson, Missouri 7-3, they slipped by the Mt Vernon Renegades 7-6 and were shutout by the Carterville Junior Vols 12-0. Farina will finish up their pool play today at 1:30 against Nanning, China.
