After weeks of regular-season competition, the spotlight shifts to championship baseball as the Salem Little League Boys Majors City Series opens Monday night at the Salem Little League Complex.

Sager Insurance and Country Financial have earned their way into the championship round and will square off in Game 1 of the best-of-three series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., with every game of the series beginning at the same time. The annual City Series has long been one of Salem’s premier summer sports traditions, giving the league’s top two teams one final opportunity to battle for the league championship in front of family, friends and the community.

The road to the finals has tested both clubs throughout the season, and now they’ll meet with a championship on the line. While the regular season determines who reaches the title round, the City Series gives both teams a clean slate as they begin the quest for the league crown.

Fans who can’t make it to the ballpark can still follow every pitch. WSIQ will once again provide complete coverage of the series, with “The Voice of Marion County” Josh Tate handling the play-by-play. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1350, 92.1 FM, and streamed online at SouthernIllinoisNow.com.

The City Series has become one of the highlights of the Salem summer sports calendar, showcasing the talent, sportsmanship and competitive spirit of the community’s young baseball players. With two evenly matched teams and a championship at stake, another memorable series is expected as Sager Insurance and Country Financial take the field beginning tonight.
