There will be several activities at the Marion County Fair Exhibit building to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday ahead of the 1776 Dinner on Friday evening.
One of the organizers, Luke Purcell, says everyone is invited to visit displays beginning at noon on Friday.
“We will have some reenactors there putting on musket demonstrations in a small camp-type setting so people can get a chance to see what a Revolutionary War soldier’s life was like. We will also have some displays on 1800 century medicine, historical documents, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and the signers of the Declaration of Independence.”
Purcell says doors will open at six for the 1776 Dinner at the exhibit building.
“Master of Ceremonies, Wyatt Colclasure, we’ll have speakers on the Declaration of Independence. As well as a presentation on Francis Marion and George Rogers Clark, both of whom have strong Marion County connections to the Revolutionary War.”
Purcell says the Iuka Grade School Band will perform patriotic music, and the evening will end with everyone being served a piece of the country’s 250th Birthday Cake.
There are still some tickets available for the dinner. You can call Mark Decker at 708-256-8721 to purchase tickets.
