The Centralia City Council will hold three public hearings to seek input on three upcoming grant or low interest loan applications prior to Monday night’s regular meeting.
The first hearing is at five on proposed improvements to Laura Leake park. The Open Space Land Acquisition and Development or OSLAD grant would be used replace the old pavilion, the installation of one to two new pieces of playground equipment with a rubberized safety surface, replacement of doors to the bathrooms and utility building, repainting of the basketball court, the addition of a second water foundation and upgrades to the bathrooms. The goal is to improve safety, accessibility, and the overall quality of the park while promoting outdoor activity and community engagement.
A hearing is set for 5:15 to discuss the city’s intentions to seek a low interest loan for complete replacement of the water main from the city near Walmart to the Kaskaskia College water tower.
The third hearing at 5:30 will be to receive input on a transportation grant to construct new sidewalks in the area of Illinois Route 161 and Pleasant Avenue neighborhood.
At the council meeting that follows at six, a resolution will be considered to submit the OSLAD grant request for Laura Leake Park improvements.
The council will also be asked to waive the bidding requirements and accept a proposal from Brown’s Heating and Air Conditioning for HVAC Maintenance at city hall in the amount of $12,626.
A service award will be presented to wastewater treatment plant operator Dustin Garren for 15 years of service.
