A 20-year-old Centralia man has been sentenced to four years in prison for burglary. Stewart Stumbaugh of South Brookside had pleaded guilty to the charge in exchange for entering into the drug court program.
The sentencing was scheduled after Stumbaugh violated the terms of drug court and was removed from the program. In addition to the four-year prison term, he will have to complete one year of mandatory supervised release. Stumbaugh was also given credit for 152 days already served in prison.
Stumbaugh had earlier pleaded guilty to the January burglary of Blue Goose Liquor on East 13th Street. He was accused of breaking out a window with a large rock to gain entry. Stumbaugh was allegedly seen running from the building as Centralia Police arrived to investigate a burglary alarm. He was arrested following a brief foot chase.
Stumbaugh had initially been charged with resisting or obstructing a peace officer, but those charges were earlier dropped as part of the plea agreement. Due to a prior felony conviction in Marion County, Stumbaugh faced an extended sentence on the resisting and criminal damage charges.
