Marion County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Anthony Decker will be the Republican Party’s candidate for sheriff on the November ballot.

The vote of the Marion County Central Committee came after Cody Rose dropped out of contention and announced he would be filing a complaint with the State Police and Attorney General Integrity Unit seeking an investigation of what happened after Sheriff Kevin Cripps announcement that he was withdrawing as a candidate for re-election at Tuesday night’s meeting.   He said he began gathering evidence last Friday.

Rose attempted to nominate county board chair Steve Whritenour for sheriff after withdrawing, but the request was rejected because the nominations had closed earlier.   Whritenour said he would have accepted the nomination to be sheriff if offered.

The meeting was contentious, with a crowd of several hundred gathered to watch the vote, only to see it moved to a closed room and an announcement of Anthony Decker as the winner when the vote concluded.

Watch for more details soon.
