Salem Township Hospital CEO Jim Timpe says two new clinics will start at the hospital by late summer.

He says the first is a Covanin Clinic.

“Coumadin is a medication that is given to folks as a blood thinner when they have blood clot issues,” Timpe said. “You have to have your blood tested frequently to make sure your blood’s not too thin or that it’s not thickening again, and then your dose has to be adjusted. This is a clinic so that instead of the primary care physician having to see you all the time, you can come in and our nurses will follow protocol and take care of that for you.”

The second clinic is for wound care.

“A wound care center is for people with chronic wounds. Often people with diabetes or who are bed bound or things like that have wounds that just won’t heal. This uses the latest technology, it uses skin grafts and it uses special cleaning and healing medications for those wounds to help get those wounds healed permanently.”

Timpe told the hospital board Wednesday that with the addition of two new nurse practitioners at the West Whitaker Family Health Center they are at full medical staff, although some other positions remain open.

The board was told the hospital was over budget for the first two months of the new fiscal year and has provided $127,107 in charity care so far this fiscal year.  The hospital in May had 106 inpatient days, performed 111 surgeries and had 514 therapy visits.

Timpe reported the hospital has appeared on a list in Becker’s Hospital publication as one of 508 hospitals in the country to have no urinary tract infections following installation of urinary catheters during the last reporting period.
