The rich tradition of high school bowling in Southern Illinois continued this week as the Mt. Vernon Rams turned in an impressive performance at the U.S. High School Bowling National Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

Representing Nu Bowl Lanes, the Rams battled against some of the top high school bowling teams from across the country and finished fourth overall in the national tournament. Their strong showing places them among the nation’s elite programs and adds another chapter to the region’s growing success on the national stage.

Mt. Vernon’s fourth-place finish follows the success of the Salem Wildcats, who placed third at the same national event two summers ago. The back-to-back national-level performances by Southern Illinois teams highlight the area’s reputation as a powerhouse for high school bowling.

The Rams’ squad consisted of Travin Elliott, Trace Elliott, Korbyn Breeze, Cooper Bradley, and Aidan King. The group put together a tremendous run throughout the tournament before ultimately finishing just shy of the championship round.

Claiming the national title was Gahanna Lincoln High School of Ohio, which defeated fellow Ohio powerhouse Beavercreek High School in the championship match. Clermont High School from Florida rounded out the top three teams.

While the team competition has concluded, the Mt. Vernon bowlers are not finished competing. The Rams will now turn their attention to the singles competition, where they will look to add to an already memorable week on the national stage.

For Mt. Vernon, the fourth-place finish serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the players and coaches while further showcasing the strength of high school bowling throughout Southern Illinois.
