Donald l. Maschhoff, age 80 of Hoyleton, passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Donald was born in Centralia, Illinois on July 2, 1945, a son of the late Leonard and Alma Maschhoff. He married Ruth Ann Twenhafel on July 5, 1969, and she preceded him in death on January 24, 2015.
Mr. Maschhoff is survived by his two daughters, Sara (Joe) Lombardo and Dora (Dale) Diekemper; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Harper Lombardo, and Henry and Marlowe Diekemper; two brothers, Ron Maschhoff, and Randy (Karen) Maschhoff; a brother-in-law, Ralph Twenhafel; his nieces and nephews, Tammy (Jason) Oertel, Josh (Jen) Maschhoff, and Justin (Jenny) Maschhoff; and several great nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; a brother, Dale Maschhoff; and three sisters-in-law, Shirley Twenhafel, Diane Maschhoff, and Wanda Twenhafel.
Don proudly served his country in the National Guard and was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton. He spent his life as a dairy and grain farmer, a calling that was not only his work, but also his passion and hobby. Don dedicated himself to his family and to the farm he loved, finding joy in the simple routines of country life and in visiting with others wherever he went. He never knew a stranger and often shared his belief that, “There’s nothing worth more than a smile and a good friend.”
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church (205 North Main, Hoyleton, Illinois 62803). Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, and again on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. A Funeral service will follow on Saturday at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Hoyleton.
