Salem Township Hospital CEO Jim Timpe says same day surgery will move to a new location next week as the hospital prepares to begin renovation and expansion of the emergency department.
Timpe says the move wasn’t initially anticipated but is required because a portion of the same day surgery department is in the footprint of the area to be renovated.
“Monday, our same day surgery area, which is where patients go to prep for surgery, recover afterward, and wait to be picked up, that same-day surgery area is going to relocate from the first floor to the second floor,” Timpe said. “It will be in some shared space with med surge, but it will have its own area in there with new signage, and we’re communicating that with all the patients who are impacted.”
Timpe says the renovation of the operating room is now complete awaiting state department of public health approval for occupancy. Once that occurs, the emergency room will move to the operating room area so the ER improvements can be made. Timpe says the state could schedule a visit to review the renovation or just approve it based on a review of information they have been provided.
