The Salem Lady Wildcats pulled off a mild upset to open up the Newton 2a volleyball regionals as they eliminated Effingham at Newton 25-17, 25-11. The Lady Cats will advance to Thursday’s regional finals where they will get top seed Newton after their straight sets win over Vandalia.
Breese Central opened the Althoff regional with a win over Greenville, Freeburg beat the hosts at DuQuoin. At Olney, St Anthony beat Robinson and the hosts fell to TTown.

Mater Dei opened at home with an easy win over MacArthur and will play Mt Vernon on Friday who beat Marion 25-12, 25-17.
