The Marion County Board held a brief meeting Tuesday night and didn’t discuss the fiscal year budget that has to be passed by December first. However, they did set a special meeting to take up the budget for Tuesday, November 10th, at five pm at the courthouse.
Vice-Chair Tracy Murray says the goal will be to finalize the tentative budget at the November 10th meeting so it can lay over for 15 days before final passage at the regular November meeting. The board was still facing an estimated $350,000 deficit at the end of the finance and budget meeting earlier this month after all capital expenditures were eliminated.
The Marion County Teen Leadership Team and Courtney Beal who heads the 4H program for the U of I Extension Center came before the board to thank them for their continued financial support through the annual property tax levy.
“That helps us to be able to provide hands-on learning experiences to our youth,” Beal said. “That helps them build better skills, gain confidence, and discover their interests. They also become better leaders in their communities.”
The President of the 4H Federation Holly Borcherding and Treasurer Adalynn Rose explained all the activities the 4H and other programs have made available to them.
The board also approved appointments to the 911 Emergency Phone Board and Marion County Health Board after the openings were published for 45 days on the county website. Lonnie McDaneld was appointed chair of the Marion County Emergency Telephone Board, Kyle Ambuehl secretary, and Terry Mulvaney as a member. All three will have four-year terms. Six were appointed to the health department board. Pediatrician Dr. Matt Stedelin, Registered Nurse Kendra Taylor, Dentist Dr. Kyle Clark, Psychiatrist Dr. Victoria Codispoti, and Pharmacist David Marcum were appointed to three-year terms and Veterinarian Dr. Michael Douglas to a one-year term. Dr. Douglas is the Marion County Board representative with a yearly appointment.
