Another round of competition has begun between the Centralia Youth Commission and the Gaetti Sports Academy to see who can collect the most donations to provide food to local families in need. The two organizations have held this competition since 2020. Gaetti Sports Academy won the first three years of the competition, and the Centralia Youth Commission won the last two.
Nonperishable food items and cash donations are accepted for the food drive. Gayla Harting, representing the Centralia Youth Commission, told the city council Monday night that last year’s competition collected thousands of dollars and two U-Haul trailers full of food for local food banks. Greg Sutton of Gaetti Sports Academy joined her in saying that regardless of which group wins the competition each year, the real winners are the community.
Donations are being accepted now through November 18 at Centralia City Hall, Gaetti Sports Academy, and Stonewater restaurant.
