Salem Township Hospital was surprised with 60 who showed up at the hospital ahead of Monday night’s expected severe weather.

Hospital CEO Jim Timpe says the hospital is not a shelter, but they didn’t turn anyone away who came for assistance.   He says they were taken to the safest area of the hospital where patients were also moved after Marion County was placed under a tornado warning.

Timpe told the hospital board on Wednesday afternoon he plans to contact Marion County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Andrew Strong to work for a better solution for those who need a place to shelter during severe weather.   Salem currently has no shelter available.
