A trash fire spread to some tires and railroad ties before eventually producing enough heat to set the inside of a nearby storage building on fire.

The noon hour fire on Sunday was at the James VanMeader home on Nancy Lane just off Route 37 and Church Road on the southside of Salem.

Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton says the they were able to knock down the fire before it spread from the superstructure of the shed to the stored items inside or the outside of the structure.

Kell provided mutual aid on the scene while Odin covered the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.  Firemen were on the scene for about two hours.
