It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of William Amel “Bill” Oberg, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bill peacefully departed this world on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026, at the age of 75, in Centralia, Illinois, his cherished home.

Bill was born on March 5th, 1951, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the late Lloyd and Norma (Ashby) Oberg. In 1997, Bill married Tonia Ganswind, and she survives. He was a man of many talents and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a dedication to those around him. His journey through life took him through various vocations, including his time at World Color Press in Salem, Illinois, at Hi-Shots/Memorial Tributes, and as a small-business owner of Bo’s Sales Center in Centralia. Most recently, Bill contributed his skills at Prairie Built Buildings in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Bill was a man of the people, never meeting a stranger and always ready to lend a helping hand. His “off the wall” humor was infectious, often filling a room with laughter and joy. One of his favorite sayings was that he “earned his degree from the school of hard knocks,” a testament to his resilient spirit and earthy wisdom. A passionate music lover, Bill especially enjoyed the blues and attending concerts, cherishing these experiences with family and friends.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, Tonia Oberg of Centralia; his three children: Shana Oberg of Toledo, Ohio, Bill Oberg, Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Taylor Oberg of St. Louis, Missouri; and his step-daughter Stephanie Anderson of Highland, Illinois. He was the proud grandfather of three: Audrey Oberg of St. Louis, Missouri, Brendan Oberg of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Brody Oberg of St. Louis, Missouri.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jackie Gagnon and her husband Ray of Wayne, Michigan, his brother Gerald “Buck” Jannett of Taylor, Michigan, and his nephew Scott Gagnon of Wayne, Michigan.

To honor Bill’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held at Hillcrest Lakeside Chapel in Centralia, Illinois on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. These will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois 62801, which is honored to serve Bill’s family.
