A fire fully engulfed a shed housing a substantial amount of equipment on the Gary Rinehart property in the 5400 block of Woodard School Road in rural Salem during the noon hour on Sunday.
The fire was so hot it melted the exterior siding on one side of Rinehart’s home before the blaze was brought under control and the house was saved.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Salem Firemen received mutual aid assistance on the scene from Kinmundy-Alma and Odin Firemen. Kell Firemen stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at 12:16 Sunday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene about two hours.
Later in the afternoon, Salem Firemen were called to a controlled burn that got out of control after those watching the fire stepped away for lunch. The fire was on the Tug Sanson residence in the 400 block of Kell Street. Firemen report three-fourths of an acre burned before the fire was put out. No buildings were threatened.
