Three outbuildings were destroyed in a late Saturday afternoon fire on the Gary White property at 6003 Sinclair Road east of Kinmundy.
Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says White had been burning off a field and believed it was out when he went inside. He looked outside when his dogs began barking and saw that the fire had spread to the two 10-by-16-foot buildings and the 8-by-10-foot building. All the small items inside the building were destroyed. The buildings were about 30 feet away from the grass-and-woods fire.
The fire had moved close to where White’s dogs were housed, but they were not injured.
Kinmundy-Alma Firemen called Salem for mutual aid to stand by at their station in the event of another fire. Iuka had originally been called for mutual aid, but the call was cancelled when the fire department confirmed that only outbuildings were destroyed.
The fire call came in at four Saturday afternoon and were on the scene for about an hour.
