Charles “Bill” Cain, 94, of Patoka, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, with his family by his side, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born on March 17, 1931, in East Fork Township, the son of Delmer and Fern (Orrell) Cain. He married the love of his life, Jenylle Heather, on January 14, 1954, in Carlyle, and she preceded him in death on March 20, 2019.

Bill is survived by his children, Wesley and Michelle Cain of Patoka, Kathy  Robb and Howard of Patoka, Tammy and Russell Adams of Patoka, Julie and Brad Brasel of Shobonier;  cherished grandchildren Kevin Cain and Carrie Layman, Kendell Dehn, Howie and Lizz Robb, Cindy Ackermann, Heather and Rodney Montes, James and Angie Adams, Jason and Stacey Adams, Casey Welscher and Lucas Krutsinger, Cody and Emily Logan, Klayton and Micah Brasel, Kelcie and Ryan Sundberg, and Misty Cain; precious great-grandchildren Shane and Nicole, Ty, Wade, Kru, Khloe, Kendra and Caleb, Keegan, Lauren, Landon, Peyton, Zane, Amelia, Morgan, Bailey, Tyler, Colton, Brookelynn, Chesni, Nylah Jo, Sawyer, and Jayden, Waylynn, Madelyn, Mia, Macie; great-great-grandchildren, Theo, Athena, Ofelia, Violet, Aiden, and one on the way in May; siblings, Clayton Cain Sr. and Kay, Dennis Cain Sr. and Cheryl; sister-in-law, Charlotte Cain; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Along with his wife of 65 years, Jenylle Cain, he was preceded in death by his parents, Delmer and Fern Cain; granddaughter, Kelly Jo Cain; grand-son-law, Stevie Ackerman; his sisters, Wilma Sides, Jean Belcher and Gale; and his brother, Keith Cain.

Bill was a proud United States Army veteran who served in Korea. He was an amazing provider for his family, maintaining his dairy farm, operating the B & G Bait Shop that he and his wife, Jenylle, co-owned with his sister and her husband, Jean and Gale Belcher, and later working as a union laborer. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Bill was active in the community of Patoka. He served as a member of the Patoka American Legion. He was also a member of the Laborers Local 100, East St. Louis. Not one to just sit idle, Bill kept active even in his free time. He enjoyed time in the woods, hunting with his coon dogs. Bill also knew all the best places to catch the limit. Everyone loved when he would share a good story of his adventures while fishing out on the water or hunting in the woods. Bill was a protective family man who always put family first. His best moments were spent in the simple, everyday moments where family was gathered and sharing in each other’s lives. Bill will be forever remembered as a man of integrity, hard work, dedication to his family, generosity and loyalty.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka. Interment will follow at Pratt Cemetery in rural Patoka. Relatives and friends are welcome to the visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home in Patoka. Memorials may be made in Bill’s honor to Patoka American Legion or Pratt Cemetery.
