Margaret L. Lovell, age 97 of Carlyle, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Carlyle, Illinois.

Mrs. Lovell was born on July 23, 1928, in Carlyle, Illinois, a daughter of John H. and Hazel (Gilliland) Ratermann.  She married Leland Lovell on August 13, 1946, in Claire, Michigan, and they were married 59 wonderful years until his passing on December 1, 2005.

Mrs. Lovell is survived by a daughter, Judy Lampe of Carlyle; a son, Gerald Lovell and wife Mary of Quincy, IL; 3 grandchildren, Mark (Renee) Lampe of Carlyle, Brian Lampe of Copperas Cove, TX, and Robyn Lattimore of Quincy; her great grandchildren, Cora Dede, Ashlynn Pieper, Mayson Pieper, Madelyn Pieper, Allison (Ian Sotelo) Lampe, Rebecca (Riley) Johnson, and Benjamin Lampe; and a great-great granddaughter, Oaklynn Lansing.  Margaret is also survived by a sister, Hazel V. Terry of Centralia, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leland Lovell; her parents, John H. and Hazel Ratermann; her parents in law, Lewis and Esther (Kaufmann) Lovell, a son-in-law, Vincent Lampe; a granddaughter, Traci Lovell Dede; her siblings, Mary (Tom) Lile, Helen Breault, Madeline (Henry) Priesmeyer, and John B. Ratermann; and her in-laws, Thomas C. Terry, Sr. and Robert and Helen Lovell.

Margaret was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Church and the St. Ann Altar Sodality, both in Carlyle.  She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was taking a peaceful walk, tending to her garden, an evening out at bingo, or a good card game. Nothing meant more to Margaret than being with her family, surrounded by the people she loved most.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at St. Mary’s Church at 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL.  Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Carlyle.  Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle on Thursday morning from 9:00 A.M. until service time.
