Debbie L. Grimes, a beloved member of the Centralia community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on Tuesday, June 24, 1958, in Casey, Illinois, the daughter of Dale Lee Irby and Mary (Arenilla) Irby. Debbie married the love of her life, Rorie Grimes, on June 14, 1988, and he survives.
A graveside service will be held in her honor on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Hillcrest Lakeside Chapel in Centralia. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois, and again on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Debbie’s name to the Marion County Animal Control. Debbie is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Rorie Grimes of Centralia. Together, they built a loving family that includes three children: Tammy Ritter and husband Jeff of Kinmundy, Bill Smith and wife Heather of Odin, and Jon Smith of Centralia. She was a cherished mother-in-law to Teresa Smith of Centralia. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren: Cody Gould, Mary Branch, Hania Smith, Mason Smith, Riley Smith, Eva Smith, and Matt Ritter. Debbie is also survived by her brother-in-law, Doug Grimes of Centralia, along with several nieces and nephews who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joseph Irby, and her sisters-in-law, Lisa Grimes and Karen Irby.
Debbie worked at Walmart, where she was known for her warm smile and helpful nature. Outside of work, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved animals, creating beautiful crafts, playing cards, and coloring. Her passion for watching scary movies and going on rides with her husband and her four-legged companion, Dakota, brought excitement to their lives. Above all, she treasured her time spent with family and her grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. Debbie L. Grimes will be remembered for her kind heart, her love for her family, and the joy she brought to the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who loved her dearly.
