Monday the IHSA held another highly anticipated meeting to discuss athletics, and once again they postponed any decisions for another couple of weeks.  With no action take, the board will meet again January 27th to provide an update and determine a course of action.

The Board did announce that all IHSA sports not operating under an official IHSA season calendar may begin to conduct contact days as soon as they are allowable per Illinois Department of Public Health mitigations and local school guidance.

Additionally, the Board reviewed several options outlining a sports schedule framework for the remainder of the school year.  They directed the IHSA staff to take feedback from yesterday’s meeting, as well as any insight gained in the coming weeks, and bring forward a viable scheduling option for the meeting on the 27th.

They added with the Governor saying certain regions could see a lightening of mitigations as early as Friday, the IHSA will allow for low risk winter sports such as boys and girls bowling and cheerleading and dance to begin practice immediately when their region has been deemed safe.

The IHSA successfully conducted seasons in golf, girls tennis, cross country and girls swimming and diving through Sectional competition this Fall, but all IHSA sports have been paused since November 20th.
