Governor JB Pritzker has signed the bill to extend the westside Salem TIF district for another 12 years.   The city council will be asked to follow suit at its meeting Monday night.   The TIF District provides incentives for new businesses and building improvements to a portion of the west side of town.

The council Monday night will continue discussion on the sale of the former Save-a-Lot building at 406 West Main Street.   While the council rejected all bids at its last meeting, City Manager Annette Sola believes the council is now willing to work with interested parties without setting a minimum bid.  She says the city is looking to continue to work with those who submitted the three bids as well as others who have come forward following the vote at the last meeting.

The council will oversee the swearing in of a new Salem Police Department Sergeant.   Dustin Duncan is receiving the promotion.  He is currently the senior patrolman having joined the department in 2009.

The council will be asked to approve a zoning change for 525 East Lake from Industrial to Small Multi-Family Housing Development.   Developer Micah Mulvaney plans to build five housing units on the 2.8-acre parcel at Lake and Marion Streets that formerly housed the Durham Bus Garage.   The planning commission has already given its approval.

Salem Grade Church is seeking permission to use Bryan Memorial Park on Sunday, October 20th, for church-sponsored events.

The meeting begins at six on Monday night at Salem City Hall.
