A 27-year-old Belleville man has been charged in Marion County Court with possession of a controlled substance following an investigation by Salem Police into forged prescription scripts.
Michael Appling is accused in the felony count of having possession of codeine without a prescription.
Salem Police were initially called to Bandy’s Pharmacy when they became suspicious about a script that had been presented in the drive-through window. After determining it was allegedly fake, police impounded Appling’s rental car. Police later allegedly located other prescription scripts and evidence that he had utilized the scripts at one other pharmacy and possibly one in Vandalia.
Appling was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond on the provision he use no drugs or alcohol. The public defender was appointed to represent him.
