Buddy B. Oxford, 85, of Opdyke, Illinois, passed away at 9:54 am December 11, 2020 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Buddy was a retired Jefferson County Correctional Officer, a lifelong Cubs fan, and was the owner of Buddy’s BBQ. His passion was his family. Buddy was of the Baptist faith.
A Private Family Graveside Service was held with Reverend Dan Harriman officiating. Interment was at Hams Grove Cemetery. Per Buddy’s wishes, anyone wanting to honor him can make a donation to the American Cancer Society. The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service at a later date. Buddy is survived by five children, Mike Conner of Dix, Illinois, Rhonda (Glen) Roberts of Opdyke, Illinois, Kim (Allen) Barnard of Bluford, Illinois, Desiree Oxford of Bluford, Illinois, and J.B. Oxford of Bluford, Illinois; grandchildren, Chalet, Sarah, Billy, Boulder, Jerrod, Katie, Jace, Justin, Addie, Clarissa, Haley, Lakin, Gibby, Kris, Loretta, Glenny, and Cristy; twenty-three great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Otsie Wilcox and Dennis Hayes.
He was born September 23, 1935 in Benton County, Tennessee, the son of Gilbert Oxford and Addie (Holland) Oxford. Buddy married Dellas E. Stratton on March 10, 1956 in Corinth, Mississippi and she preceded him in death on April 11, 2009. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dellas; son, Buddy W. Oxford; daughter, Teresa Drew; two brothers, Agbert and Jerry; and three sisters, Gilberta, Betty, and Polly.
