Mary Virginia Ashenfelter, 94, of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Odin Healthcare Center in Odin.
Virginia was a homemaker the majority of her life. In her younger years, Virginia worked at Illinois Bell as a telephone operator for 8 years and Woolworths for 8 years. Virginia was of the Catholic Faith. She loved her cats and her little dog, Ted that her grandson got her. She will be deeply missed by her family.
A Private Graveside Service will be held for Virginia Ashenfelter at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia at later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Centralia Humane Society and will be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia (618)532-3523 who is honored to be of service to the Ashenfelter Family. Virginia was born October 14, 1926, in Bartelso, IL, the daughter of Bernard C. Grawe and Anne E. (Bratz) Grawe. She married James W. Ashenfelter, Sr. in 1958 and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Virginia is survived by three daughters: Mary L. Ashenfelter of Louisville, KY, Patricia Goodiel and husband Ronald of Centralia, and Teresa Cooksey and husband Joe of Centralia; seven grandchildren: Brandon Goodiel, Elizabeth Young, Amber Collins, Brian Goodiel, Erika Ewing, Jimmy Ashenfelter, and Stephanie Ashenfelter; four great-grandchildren: Harper Goodiel, Dallas Goodiel, Isabell Ewing, and Maggie Young; and one great-grandchild on the way.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents: Bernard and Anne Grawe, her husband: James Ashenfelter, Sr.; and her son: James Ashenfelter, Jr.
