Janette Alvis, 100, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:48 am December 22, 2020 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Mrs. Alvis was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. She was a loving, caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family as well as cooking for them.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Bluford, Illinois. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Janette’s honor to Oakdale Cemetery. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people in our building at a time. Following the CDC and NFDA regulations, we encourage everyone to wear a mask. Janette is survived by her sons, Darrel Alvis and wife, Linda of Pikeville, North Carolina, Terry Alvis and wife, Annette of Walnut Hill, Illinois, Kevin Alvis and wife, Cindy of Benton, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born December 14, 1920 in Bluford, Illinois to the late Claude and Rosetta (Maxey) Case. Janette married James Alvis on April 2, 1942. They were married nearly fifty-five years before he preceded her in death on January 4, 1997. In addition to her parents and husband, Janette was preceded in death by her infant daughter; son, Duane Alvis; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Alvis; granddaughters, Melissa Alvis Helms and Linda Lemon; one brother; and one sister.
