A 25-year-old Salem man that went on a two year crime spree to the area has now been sentenced to prison in six area counties.
Tristan Rankin of Robin Road received a five year prison term in Marion County Court Wednesday for burglary and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle. The time will run concurrently with prison terms handed down earlier in Effingham, Clinton, Jefferson, Clay and Washington Counties.
In addition to the prison time, Rankin was ordered to make $6,914 in restitution in Marion County cases as well as complete one year of mandatory supervised release when getting out of prison. He will get credit for 482 days already served in the Marion County Jail while awaiting trial.
Rankin pleaded guilty in Marion County to a December 2021 burglary to a building in the 28-hundred block of State Route 37 South of Salem and for unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle stemming from a June 2023 incident. A second count in the stolen vehicle case accusing Rankin of leading Central City Police on a high speed chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. Separate charges of unlawful possession of another stolen vehicle in February of last year and felony retail theft in November of 2021 were dropped as part of the plea.
Rankin earlier received five years for burglary in Clinton County, three years for burglary in Jefferson County, four years for burglary in Clay County, two years for burglary in Washington County, and three years for possession of a stolen vehicle.
