Selmaville Grade School’s new administration settles in

The Selmaville Grade School has a new Superintendent and Principal.

The school board hired Brittany Boldt as Superintendent this spring and Kristi Consolino was named Principal at a special meeting earlier this month.  It’s the first time in a number of years Selmaville has had the Principal’s job filled.

Boldt is originally from Olney, but began her teaching career at Mt. Vernon High School where she taught consumer science for ten years.  She then was director of the Regional Office of Education Pre School for All Program for six years before going to the Lawrenceville School District where she was Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Boldt and her family have now moved to Salem.   She’s looking forward to her first job as Superintendent:

“Our biggest focus is going to be the culture and the climate. Students first, looking at what the traditions have always been in the community and really gaining that confidence to want to be here at Selmaville. Rasing that bar of not only academic success, but also teachers pouring into their kids in a way that everyone wants to be here.”

Boldt is pleased to have Consolino join her as Principal.

“Consolino is the veteran teacher at Selmaville. She’s been here for 25, almost 26 years. Having her knowledge, seniority and depth is going to allow us to take that next step forward. She is a gem, and I’m very excited to be adding her to our administration.”

Boldt explained how they would split administrative duties.

“I will oversee transportation, budget and finance. We’re both going to evaluate staff. She’s going to see a lot of the day-to-day operations, discipline. She’s also our 504 and our special ed coordinator. We’re basically going to assist each other with curriculum, teacher evaluation and overseeing the students, but then she’s going to handle a lot of the day-to-day operations of the school.”

Consolino says over the past few years she has wanted to get more involved in helping teachers.

“I was the union president for five years, and just leading teachers and helping them grow and supporting them led me to want to be able to lead teachers and help them move onward and upward. They’re going to bring their students with them, and just being able to move a big group of people upward and onward was something that really inspired me.”

The school board set several start of school dates at its Monday night meeting.  In person registration will be on Thursday, July 18th, from two to six pm.  The PTO will hold a Back to School Pool Party at the Salem Family Aquatic Center from 6:15 to 9:15 on Tuesday, August 6th.  An open house to introduce Boldt to the community and for parents to meet their child’s teachers and leave school supplies is set for Tuesday, August 13th.   The first day of school for students will follow on Wednesday, August 14th.
