Summer projects at Centralia High School are all progressing on schedule, including the installation of a restored stained-glass window in Trout Arena. According to principal Reid Shipley, the frames for the window are in place, and installation of the window itself will begin next Monday and is expected to be finished by Wednesday. Shipley expects that the window will be an eye-catching and impressive addition. There are discussions of having a ceremony to dedicate the window, but no official date has been set.

Another major project underway is the installation of a turf football field from GeoSurfaces, which superintendent Chuck Lane says is proceeding on schedule. According to Lane, workers installing the field are putting in long hours and have been pleasant to work with. The installation is expected to be finished in August before the start of the school year.

The amended budget for FY 24 was approved, showing a $1 million surplus across the school’s four major funds, with total cash increasing from slightly over $6 million last June to slightly over $7 million currently. Lane said that with federal grant money running low, some salaries that the grant money had been covering would need to be covered by the school going forward, but that there were “no crazy expenses” from the grant that would have to be renewed. Lane called this a budget the board should be happy about and proud of.

Five new hires were made pending successful completion of employment history: Mallory Crouse as CEO facilitator, Kevin Thompson as full-time custodian, Jacob Brothers as annex security guard, Jeramy Easley as full-time annex aide, and Krysti Courson as full-time annex aide.
