The Sandoval Village Board has authorized a $38,805 payment from its tax increment financing district to reimburse for part of the renovation costs to convert the old Bill’s Cafe on Main Street into a hair salon.   Property owner Kelly Jenkins will receive the payment once the work is completed and the new business opens.  Jenkins puts the total cost of the renovation and equipment to open the new business at $110,000.

The Sandoval Board is tired of waiting for completion of its 2022 audit that is causing problems in applying for grants and getting state payments.  A letter will be sent to Kujawa and Batteau of Mt. Vernon to either complete the work in 21 days or return the village’s audit materials so the audit can be completed by another firm.  The village earlier hired Ben Timmerman of Vandalia to do the 2023 audit, but he cannot do anything unit the 2022 audit is complete.   If the Mt. Vernon firm cannot complete the audit, village officials hope Timmerman will be able to complete it for them.

The board approved two demolition projects.  Chuck’s Excavating of Salem was hired to tear down a home and outbuildings at 610 South Main at a cost of $8,500.  Earth Services of Benton will remove the no longer used ground water storage facility on US 50 East near the former smelter plant for $6,000.

The board hired Trenton Ray as the new fulltime outdoor public works department employee.  The public works department was authorized to hire a part-time employee to replace Ray in that position.
