A 21-year-old Sandoval man has been charged with aggravated battery to a correctional officer after allegedly hitting a Marion County Jail correctional officer in the face.

Preston Slone of Old U.S. 51 allegedly struck the officer after two officers went into a jail cell to break up an altercation between two inmates.  When being removed out of the cell Slone allegedly continued to resist and eventually was placed in a restraint chair for 15 minutes in an attempt to calm him down.

Bond on the new charge was set at $20,000 and the public defender appointed to represent Slone.

Sloan was already in custody on another charge of aggravated battery to a police officer.   In that case, he is accused by Centralia Police of throwing a chair, phone book, and plate at an officer who had come to his room at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital after he reportedly had become unruly and tore a phone off the wall.
