The Marion County Board Tuesday night approved a $25,835 update to the security system at the Marion County Courthouse and Public Service Building.
Sheriff Kevin Cripps says the improvements address concerns at the public service building.
“Also the key fobs for the probation office would be associated with our key fobs. So my fob, I can go walk straight in. For security reasons you remember the public defender requested this because he had some concerns with the probation department in his office and not having the best clientele in there and there is no way for us to see them currently. They care completely blind to us and we can’t see what’s going on in there at all.”
The improvements will add cameras at the Public Service Building as well as at current blind spots inside and outside the courthouse including over cash drawers. A security camera will also be added at the Moose record storage annex. Cripps hopes the work can be completed later this year.
Cripps reported there are currently 45 prisoners in the Marion County Jail. 29 of those are federal prisoners. Cripps is pleased to see that number up which means additional revenue to the county.
The board reappointed Steven Donoho to a trustee position on the Kell Fire Protection District.
