A 21-year-old Okawville man has died from injuries sustained in a one vehicle accident early Saturday morning just west of Nashville.
Washington County Coroner Mark Styinger pronounced Dusty Wilfong dead at the scene at 5:54 Saturday morning.
Styninger says Wilfong was an unrestrained driver of a black pickup truck which appeared to be traveling westbound near Willow Creek Road when he ran off the roadway on the south side after negotiating the curve, striking the steep embankment and rolling over several times before the truck came to rest on its side. Wilfong was partially ejected from the vehicle.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department flew their drone over the crash scene as full crops were in the field to check for other victims and the Nashville Fire Department provided auto extrication.
The cause of death appears to be head injuries and the manner accidental. Toxicology samples were obtained by Coroner Styninger for routine testing.
The crash continues to be investigated by the Illinois State Police and Coroner’s Office.
Agencies on the scene were the Washington County Ambulance Service, Nashville Fire Department, Nashville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Washington County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
