The City of Centralia has reopened Lake Centralia for recreational use after testing indicated all sample test results for cyanobacteria received on Thursday are below advisory levels set by the state for recreational water health.
City Manager Lowell Crow says the latest sample results at the boat ramp are now non-detectable. The cove area of the private residence, where the initial cyanobacteria was reported after the death of a pet dog, is now at 7.53 parts per billion. The state issues an advisory when the bacteria reach eight parts per billion.
Since the samples in the cove are still reporting levels close to the concentration limits, the city is recommending to avoid contact with that water that has visible scum and also to continue to not let pets in the water until the entire green algae bloom dissipates.
