The Salem Rotarians are inviting everyone to come meet them in a ‘Come and Chat…’ program to be held at the Harvest Room at the Orchard on Route 37 South in Salem from six to eight Thursday evening.
President Greg Jones says the program is a chance to learn more about the Rotary and what they give back to the Salem community.
“We are hoping to see people from the Salem business community. Really anyone who is interested in making Salem a better place to live. We think Salem is a great place to live but we think we can also make it a little bit better. So we are hoping people will stop by and have a conversation with us about how they could fit into Rotary as a member. What they could bring to the organization and help us make Salem a better place and also what ideas on future projects. We are always looking for ways we can help the city.”
Among the projects of the Salem Rotary are the Closet at Salem Community High School that provides students with clothing and toiletries if they cannot afford them themselves. A similar program is offered at Hawthorn and Franklin Park Schools. The Rotary also provides shoes for kids in need at all the Salem Community High School feeder schools. They also sponsor the Little League, co-sponsored the city wide Clean Up with Keep Salem Beautiful, and provided displays for the city’s Bicentennial last year.
In the future, Jones says they’d like to explore projects for senior citizens and veterans.
The Rotary’s Mission is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace.
The program is designed to come and go as your schedule allows, with no formal program. Light appetizers, wine, soft drinks, coffee, and water will be provided.
